IGN reports that rumors of leaked specs and details about a preliminary model developer kit for the next generation Xbox console may, in fact, be accurate.
A user on the AssemblerGames Forums named DaE posted photos of the alleged leak, and initially attempted to sell the early model dev kit for $10,000. Further exploration by Digital Foundry, however, has turned up several different developers working with the initial model of the dev kit, lending credence to the leak. The dev kits were supposedly released last February, and ostensibly are an initial model dev kit for the Xbox 720.
The leaked kit was shown running a “Durango” dashboard, which is a name Xbox aficionados should recognize, as it has been thrown around for months as the possible code name for the next Xbox console. The leak also included possible specs for the next Microsoft entry in the console market – IGN reports that the console will sport an “AMD 6000 series GPU similar to the Radeon HD 6670.” Estimates are that the 720 processor will be roughly 6 times as powerful as the current generation of consoles.
For more in-depth coverage, head over to IGN and Digital Foundry. In the meantime, we’ll keep an eye out for more details as the new Xbox console, which we expect to be released in 2013, develops.
