Will we get Battlefield Premium?

Posted May 15th 2012

Rumors have been flying around from a cited “reliable source” and website Battlefieldo have leaked that Dice/EA may be announcing a Battlefield Premium service as early as E3 next month.

The source stated that:

“Battlefield™ Premium will land you a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else. First out is the one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalization options.”

Also stated was the fact that Dice may be dropping a fifth expansion pack DLC after End Game.

  • Downloadable content announced:
  1. June 12th: Close Quarters
  2. August 2012: Bonus Content
  3. Fall 2012 : Armored Kill
  4. Winter 2012 : End Game
  5. March 2013 : 5th Expansion Pack (still untitled):

I wonder if EA are trying to cut in on the profit that ELITE received for Modern Warfare 3. Whatever issues COD ELITE may have, you cannot deny that it made Activision a good chunk of change up front, and EA are all about money. The question many of you are probably asking is if this premium service will require a subscription, or only entail a one time fee. Personally, I think it will take a leaf out of ELITE’s book and require a monthly fee in exchange for early access to DLC, special weapons and perhaps exclusive dog tags or even custom colors for vehicles and guns. But hey, it hasn’t been officially announced yet and the details we do have to go on are fairly scarce. E3 is just around the corner though, and I’m sure a lot of speculation from leaks minute to massive will be answered in no time.

Depends on what it will give us and whether or not it will be a monthly thing or not and how much it will cost. Still can’t give a definite answer until they officially announce the whole package details.

If it includes DLC I probably will. Otherwise nope.

Before I even think of purchasing a premium service for Battlefield 3, I would need to see more frequent patches. When the “mega – patch” came out for Battlefield, it fixed a few issues with the game, but introduced a handful more. Even if that was to come to part, I would not pay a monthly fee for the service. I would however pay a one time fee. I mean soldier camos are essentially useless for me on PC, because they reset back to default after every round, and there is no way that at the beginning of every round I’m going to go and change my camo, because I don’t even get to see it throughout the game.

Sounds good, but it all depends on if its a one-time fee or a subscription and also what exactly it will do

This is the Cod: Elite model at work. I hope this actually works though.

Money, Money, Money….this will only be worth it if the savings are large enough and the content is good enough….that and they have to sort hacking out.

I think there’s pretty much a consensus about memberships for FPS games at the moment, and that is just a pay extra monthly for early DLC, seems almost pointless to me.
